LSU's Derek Stingley Jr. participates in first practice as a Tiger

Rivals No. 1 ranked prospect, cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., is wasting no time in getting acclimated to life as a Tiger.

The soon-to-be freshman participated in his first practice as a member of the LSU football team on Friday, according to multiple sources.

Stingley Jr. is taking advantage of a NCAA rule that permits up to 15 practices during a program's bowl preparation once his final transcripts are approved by the compliance office, which occurred Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound 17-year-old practiced with the scout team Friday, drawing rave reviews from sources that watched him cover LSU's veteran receivers.

Stingley will not be permitted to take part in the bowl game, but he does plan to make the trip to watch his team take on UCF in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on January 1.

He is expected to enroll early at LSU next month, allowing him to be a full participant in practices next spring.
